Winner of the Year
The Ebola Virus
Ebola made it into the USA in 2014, so how can it not win. We've heard about it since the 90s but it has always been Africa's problem. It scared many of us into believing this was the be all end all of civilization as we know it. Come to find out, it was handled well with no one dying but the first dude that came over with the disease. Basically it was overblown just like SARS and Swine Flu and all other diseases that were supposedly going to kill us all.
Loser of the Year
Bill Cosby
Bill Cosby. I mean we all know the story by now. At least 14 accusers have come out saying that Cosby drugged and raped them. Cosby hasn't even come out to defend himself. We all grew up on some form of Cosby from Puddin' Pops to Kids Say the Darndest things to The Cosby Show to Fat Albert. He was a role model for many on screen but off screen he was drugging his younger colleagues and raping them. The dude hasn't denied it. He just won't talk about it. Some say "Silence is Golden." I say silence in this case is guilt.
Person of the Year
Lauren Hill
Not to be confused with the former Fugees singer, Lauren is hands down the person of the year. The chick is dying of cancer. She was given only until December to live as of just a few months ago. She is not only still kicking with a severe brain cancer, she also was determined to play in a game with her college basketball team. She practiced and went to class. On her first attempt she scored a layup. If you want a tear jerker, watch this video and tell me this isn't the person of the year:
Song of the Year
All of Me by John Legend/Dark Horse by Katy Perry ft. Juicy J
Now I know ties suck, and after tough competition from Sam Smith among others, I couldn't decide between these two songs. There were played over and over on the radio and both are very catchy and very different. Who didn't feel like a badass when Juicy's part came on Dark Horse and you could hit every lyric? And how about Legend's song? Wow if you don't get butterflies dancing to this song with your woman looking into her eyes you aren't human. Reminder: this is the worst decade of music ever.
Team of the Year
San Antonio Spurs
If Kentucky had won in 2014, after that miracle run with Aaron Harrison, they would've been my winner. The Giants winning the World Series, although a good moment, was not as powerful as Tim Duncan and the Spurs taking down the mighty LeBron James and the Heat. The Heat called themselves a dynasty. Duncan has 5 quiet rings in San Antonio. That is a dynasty. The Seahawks would have won have they not had Pete Carroll as their coach or Richard Sherman on their team. I can't stand either of them so I'm a little biased.
Moment of the Year
Aaron Harrison
If you need a big shot, go to Harrison. After a rough season, the Wildcats entered the tournament as the 8 seed. They knocked off undefeated Wichita St followed by beating their rival Louisville Cardinals in the Sweet 16. The Wildcats weren't done there however. Cue Aaron Harrison for two of the most exciting 3 pointers in the history of UK basketball in the Elite 8 and Final 4 games to knock off Michigan and Wisconsin.
Yeti of the Year
Bumble
This was between Alan Flinchum and Bumble as it would be every year, and this year Bumble won.
Quote of the Year
Amy Poehler
She is known for comedy but I am a sucker for cheesy quotes. She had a good one here. It shows that if you don't act upon something nothing will happen.
Actor of the Year
Matthew McConaughey
Alright, alright, alright. This guy finally won an Oscar. He graduated from Chick Flick heart throb to a serious actor in Dallas Buyers Club and the hit show True Detective. He was nominated for Best Actor in True Detective, but lost at the Emmy's. He however took home the Academy Award.
Movie of 2014 (so far since I haven't seen many that I want to)
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
This movie received a 91% on the Tomato Meter and I was pleasantly surprised with it. I haven't seen LEGO Movie or Guardians of the Galaxy which I only hear good things about, but I have seen Gone Girl (which was good until the second half of the movie), Snowpiercer, and Chef among other contenders and I settled on this as the best of the movies I have seen.
Mystery of the Year
Malaysian Airlines
Where in the world did this plane and all of the people on board go? And why have we stopped caring?
Proud to Be an American Moment of the Year
The World Cup
We all watched and rooted for this team. The USA is a laughing stock among people who know anything about soccer, and they were put in the GROUP OF DEATH. Not many around the world gave them any hope of making it out and they did as most of America watched.
Finale of the Year
Robin Williams
He was Google's most searched of the year and rightfully so. This man touched our kids (Genie in Aladdin) and the most high of critics, winning an Oscar for Good Will Hunting. He could play a serious role or a goofy. He'd do with a role whatever you asked of him and above all he was a good man. If he saw you were having a bad day he could do whatever he could to cheer you up. We lost the great Robin Williams this year and he will be missed.
Best David's Brain Blog of the Year
Diabetes: My Battles & Please Donate to the Walk (PLEASE SHARE THIS)
This blog was obviously near and dear to my heart. It also helped to raise over $3,000 for JDRF which is a good reason to make this blog of the year.
David's Brain Worst Blog of the Year
2014 Kentucky Wildcats
I will not lie, I just copied and pasted this from a Facebook status of mine. #Laziness
